I worked with someone that had a young Vietnamese fellow who had a grandma that was 98! She lived through everything. French occupation, civil unrest between family members and then ultimately the Vietnam war. She never spoke about anything she wasn't ever asked about. So it wasn't until he was older that he became interested in her history, but by then she was too old to understand him and respond with detail. He regrets it everyday. It seems as though your kids might be heading in the same direction. I hope others can learn from his story. I know I have.
